The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has delivered ₦469 Million in cumulative housing support to personnel of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), underscoring its sustained commitment to the welfare of frontline emergency responders.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FMBN, Shehu Usman Osidi, made this known during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Federal Fire Service led by its Controller General, Mr. Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, to the Bank’s headquarters on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
Osidi disclosed that the Bank had approved a ₦483 Million Cooperative Housing Development Loan to the Fire Service Housing Multipurpose Cooperative Limited, out of which ₦241 Million has already been disbursed for the construction of 28 units of three-bedroom detached bungalows in Cross River State.
“In addition, we have extended Home Renovation Loans to 257 officers of the Federal Fire Service nationwide, with a total value of ₦228 Million,” Osidi said.
“This initiative has significantly improved the quality and comfort of their homes, underscoring our dedication to enhancing their living standards.”
He further noted that FMBN has continued to support personnel beyond active service, with ₦17 Million refunded to 43 retired officers, reflecting the Bank’s commitment to fairness and continuity in serving contributors.
The Chief Executive commended the leadership and management of the Federal Fire Service for their excellent cooperation in updating NHF contribution records and ensuring prompt remittance of deductions, and affirmed the Bank’s commitment to sustaining and deepening the partnership in a manner that continues to support the welfare and morale of its personnel.
Also speaking, the Comptroller General said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the Service and the Bank.
He acknowledged the impact of FMBN’s interventions, noting that he personally benefited from the Bank’s Home Renovation Loan about a decade ago.
Mr. Olumode also proposed the establishment of fire posts across FMBN-funded estates to ensure prompt response to emergencies, while calling for deeper collaboration in providing affordable housing for personnel and promoting the activities of the Service.
In response, Osidi welcomed the proposal and called for the setting up of a technical committee to work out implementation modalities.
The meeting was attended by FMBN's Executive Directors of Loans and Mortgage Services, Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdu, and Finance and Corporate Services, Mr. Ibidapo Odojukan, alongside other top management staff.
